Glaumbær - housing the Skagafjörður Heritage Museum, is a collection of 13 turf, stone and timber buildings representing the architecture, functions and implements of the typical home and farm of the 18th and 19th centuries. While the passageways that connect the units have remained the same for many centuries, the kitchen, pantry and communal eating and sleeping room are thought to be authentically mid- 18th century, an historical site since the age of settlement around 900 AD, Glaumbær is chiefly reknowned for the people who lived there over the ages - amongst them the first settles in North America and Greenland written about in Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Erik the Red.
