Playing Cards, 53 Aurora Borealis photos
SKU: 440026
The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis can be seen in Iceland from August to mid-April. These beautiful lights are caused by highly charged particles ejected from the sun during intense solar activity. Carried by solar winds, these particles are mostly deflected by the earth’s magnetic field, but can enter the atmosphere where the magnetic field is weakest - close to the northern and southern poles. When the particles collide with molecules in the earth’s atmosphere they are often seen as glowing ribbon-like lights. Green is the most common color, but other colors and shapes of lights are also possible depending on the colliding particles and the altitude at which they strike the earth’s atmosphere. The lights are best seen on a cloudless night away from the artificial lights of cities.
